    An El Paso police detective's death from a medical condition while on-duty marked the second detective death within a 48-hour period for the department. Police officials said Tuesday that Det. Charles Harmon died at a hospital, where he was rushed after "having a medical emergency at police headquarters." KVIA.

    A 23-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department has died of COVID-19, according to Dist. 7 City Rep. Henry Rivera. He is the first officer in the department to pass away from the virus. Detective Camerino Santiago passed away early Monday morning, according to the El Paso Police Department. Samaniego was assigned to Internal Affairs.

    An El Paso police detective died from COVID-19 Monday morning, according to a city representative. Camerino Santiago, a detective for the police department, is the first police law enforcement officer to die from the virus, said representative Henry Rivera. Santiago was 67 years old. He was looking to retire at the end of January, stated Rivera.

    El Paso Police say a driver intentionally sped toward three officers on bicycles early Saturday morning, striking two of them. It happened around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Campbell and 7th Avenue in South El Paso when police say the three officers approached the vehicle as it slowed at the intersection. KTSM.

    An El Paso police officer was arrested Friday on suspicion of helping a local drug distributor further his criminal enterprise. El Paso police officer Monica Garcia, 23, is charged on suspicion of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, conspiracy to unlawfully use a communication facility and conspiracy to maintain a drug involved premise.

    Man Arrested In Houston Police Sergeant's Shooting Death

    A man out on bond for a gun possession charge was arrested Tuesday in the shooting death of HPD Sgt. Sean Rios, as investigators continue to piece together what precipitated the deadly gun battle on Houston's northside. Robert Soliz, 24, was taken into custody on the Katy Freeway and now faces a murder charge, police said. Case records were not yet available Tuesday night.

    Two nonprofits who keep track of law enforcement line of duty deaths say that COVID-19 is responsible for killing more officers per year than gunfire, car accidents, and all other causes combined.     Prosecutors charged a 36-year-old man Wednesday with a brazen ambush of two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies earlier this month, an apparently unprovoked shooting as they sat in a squad car outside a rail station. The deputies suffered head wounds in the Sept. 12 attack and have since been released from the hospital.
